AI is accelerating the convergence of the digital and physical worlds. That’s changing more than technology. It’s changing how organizations operate and how security teams need to think and work together.
For years, cybersecurity and physical security operated in parallel. One focused on protecting systems. The other focused on protecting people. In my view, that distinction is becoming harder to make.
As AI systems become more capable, identity is no longer just about controlling access to data. It’s increasingly about determining who, or what, we trust to take action in the physical world. Those actions can directly affect people, operations, and public safety.
The mission is no longer just protecting information and systems. It’s increasingly about protecting the people, operations, and experiences that technology enables.
That’s why I’ve long believed cyber and physical security are stronger when they operate as close partners. Not because one replaces the other, but because they’re increasingly solving the same problems from different perspectives.
As AI continues to evolve, I believe we’ll spend less time thinking about cyber security and physical security as separate disciplines, and more time thinking about how we build trustworthy, resilient systems that people can depend on.
